We have learnt about the importance of purpose to regulation, but is this something completely self determined? I know Mastin Kipp speaks of purpose being the hidden emotions we are seeking themselves, but can it not be other than emotions too; for example religion giving people a sense of purpose

Yes, purpose must always be self-determined, or else it won’t be real purpose. What external structures like religions can do is help us find our individual and collective purpose, but hopefully not impose one.

I personally don’t see purpose as being an emotion itself, but the reason why that emotion exists. Still, one of the best ways to find your purpose is to know how you would like to feel. This is because emotions are about purpose, and purpose manifests as emotions.
